Thursday 21 June 2012: Icelandic Puffin
Thursday saw an improvemnt in the weather in Iceland, and a trip - by trailer, pulled by a tractor - across a black volcanic sand estuary (with the tide out) to an island that is home to Skuas, Fulmar and Puffin.
Our tractor driver (also a keen photographer) knew the best locations to shoot the puffin, and took us across the island on foot, past some giant Skuas nests. It's interesting being attacked by a Skua! Holding your hand up in the air avoids them attacking your head, but did end up with a couple of bitten fingers (nothing serious). Plenty of Puffin offered plenty of opportunity, and this little chap seemed so pleased at his haul of sand eels, he gave me an extra flap of the wings.
