Man and Unicorn

The stone mason looks a little apprehensive as he gets up and familiar with the unicorn atop the eastern pillar at the entrance to Middle Meadow Walk.

This pillar and the accompanying western pillar were erected in the mid 1800s after the former Borough Loch was drained and made into a park for leisure purposes.

The unicorn holds a shield decorated with Edinburgh's motto -' Nemo me immune Lacessit ' translated as- Whau dare meddle wi' me. Perhaps that is what is worrying the stone mason.

Today is another murky one with the odd spot of rain, but at least the colour in the trees seems enhanced. As I sit writing this, the sycamore tree outside the window is a vibrant golden amber. It is my additional image.
