Ah Lum's Store, Chinese Settlement, Arrowtown

Wikipedia: Ah Lum was born in China, and later moved to New Zealand where he opened a store in the Central Otago town of Arrowtown. He was a well-respected leader in the Chinese mining community at Arrowtown, and served as an interpreter between the Chinese and European peoples. Ah Lum became a local hero after he saved the life of a European miner who was drowning in the Shotover River.
His store was one of the few original buildings in the Chinese settlement to remain standing. The settlement was set up by the Chinese people during the Otago gold rush in the 1860s, and is a fascinating restoration. It's a historic reminder of a 'forgotten' community, and the contribution they made to Arrowtown's fortunes.

This image is another example of the 'illustrative' mode in my Sony a7R II - I do like the 'painterly' look.
