Squamish Wood Carving

The Squamish people are an indigenous people in southwestern British Columbia. In 2012, there was a population of 3,893 band members registered with the Squamish Nation. Their language is the Squamish language or Sḵwx̱wú7mesh snichim, considered a part of the Coast Salish languages, and is categorized as nearly extinct with just 10 fluent speakers as of 2010.

On a motorcycle trip through their land about 10 years ago I picked up this carving. There was a humble shop under the shadow of Stawamus Chief, a granite dome located adjacent to the town of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.
