Fire Ants

My wife wiped the top of this fire ant hill as I focused the camera.  Fire ants are common where we live and it is always best to avoid being bitten by them.  This colony is in flower bed where they made a home around a flat stone among the shrubs and flowers.  I have noticed when I disturb a hill, they seem to go away only to reappear from in the ground a few feet away.  There are pesticides that kill them, but  I rarely us them.  Every brown spot in the photo is a fire ant.  Please try in large.  The extra photo is a significant crop of the original.
