Friday 29 June 2012: Vale Pond - La Route de L'Islet
Another late blip today. It was a bit cloudy and just beginning to drizzle so I just took a few shots and hoped for the best. This location is called the Vale Pond. Originally Guernsey was two islands, but they were joined together for defense reasons a couple of hundred years ago. This low lying area is a remnant of the reclaimed land. In the last century mullet and eels were fished in large quantities from the pond as there was some ingress of sea water. Today however it is a nature reserve used by many migrating birds.
