Looming Above Us on the Slipway

2.8C and mostly bright and sunny. Some cloud late afternoon. Light to moderate breeze.

Apothecary7, Maeve the Deerhound and I went through to Arbroath after 9am and had a walk round the harbour. I made sure Maeve had her coat on to keep her warm. The lock gate to the inner harbour was closed so we could walk round in a loop. When we reached the boatyard and were looking through one of the gates at a boat on the slipway one of the workers arrived, opened the gate so he could go in, and asked if we wanted to come in for a minute or two to get some pictures. We did. We went 20 or 30 metres inside the gate so we could have a good look at the big fishing boat looming above us on the slipway. Lots of the planking on the upper hull has been removed and repairs are under way.

We came out of the boatyard and walked round to the bridge over the slipway where we could see a man working on the stern of the smaller boat Ardent. It was so cold in the breeze that my fingers were quickly getting painful when I had my gloves off. We wandered back round the inner harbour to the car then drove round to park near the "Fit 'o the Toon" so we could go to Sugar and Spice for tea/coffee and giant scones (both of us would rather they were normal sized scones). Maeve waited in the car, and we made sure she had another little walk when we came back, in case she had 'to go'.

Maeve is looking better today. We think she slept a bit better, and she didn't have to ask out through the night as she has been doing of late. Fingers crossed. This is day two of her full 10 day course of antibiotics.

Before lunch Apothecary7 and I took Maeve (coat on) for a walk. We went up to the church and carried on out the road towards Scryne. We turned right at Craigmill farm and went down the track to the shore road. The track was dry and puddles were frozen. We came back along the cycle path but turned up the road to the shore to get home rather than go on the more usual longer loop up the main road. Once we were home I brushed Maeve because her coat, if on for more than a few minutes, makes a matted mess of her coat ... if you know what I mean !

This afternoon Apothecary7 is forging ahead with the painting, colouring, collaging and generally decorating the almost final stages of the new art project. I have applied gesso to my things. Those things are drying... (and I have ideas for colours and designs which I shall work on next week)
