Catsear Flower

Very busy day.

After breakfast connected to my dad's computer to fix a problem for him. For some reason the current version of Google Chrome is causing a kernel oops which isn't so good as the whole system becomes unstable and he has to power cycle it to get back to normal. While he doesn't have a Mac it has been reported as a problem with Macs recently and it's been a problem with Linux a few months ago too. I quickly installed Iceweasel/Firefox for him and he was on his way. Thankfully, remote admin is secure and very easy on a Linux box.

Once dad was sorted it was time to fit the hinges to the loft hatch. The hatch is a tight fit and it took quite a bit of fiddling to get it to open and close cleanly. The next challenge was getting the loft latch installed, which involved the unintentional and temporary imprisonment my better half in the loft space...

It's nice and sunny outside but very windy today, so my attempts to get a decent picture was mostly blown away. I got a few good bumblebee pictures but they usually have their head stuffed into the flower which isn't that pretty.

In the end the wind died down long enough to get a decent shot of a bright yellow flower. I think it's a catsear (Hypochaeris radicata), a relative of the dandelion. For some reason I don't dislike this species and they are not hunted down and destroyed like the dandelions - even though they are very similar and both quite invasive weeds.
