Tuesday 26 June 2012: Drop of Milk
This building, Gijon's Gota de Leche, was founded in 1925 to combat child malnutrition. It provided milk to children whose mothers couldn't breast feed and who didn't have the resources to provide an alternative, such as a wet nurse. It also provided medical services and training for nurses. Gijon's was the fourth such 'drop of milk' institution opened in Spain, following a similar initiative in France. The building now houses social services.
I particularly like the gateway, which stands in isolation outside.
