The more I see these ads, the angrier I get.
Highway Code Rule 163 states, very clearly, with a photograph, that drivers should give cyclists "...at least as much space as you would a car." Nowhere does it say they should give cyclists "...as much room as a wee boy's right arm."
It's great that money's being spent tackling some of the things which make cycling occasionally scary and put most people off doing it, but this is counter-productive. A non-cycling driver who sees this is going to think driving within touching distance is okay.
And don't get me started on those flippin' tram lines.
Grrr...
Today's firm conclusion is the only answer is completely segregated cycle lanes. That's what we should be campaigning for - nothing less.
