Main Street Station

Main Street Station opened up in 1901 and, in one of the cruelest ironies of progress, was nearly immediately replaced by the larger station on Broad Street. For the majority of the last 111 years this ornate building has consistently proved to be an underperformer. Even though the Broad Street Station was long ago closed and then repurposed as a Science Museum, most Amtrak traffic now flows through the lackluster Staples Mill Rd location (more akin to a double-wide trailer in a parking lot) due to the lower ticket prices.

Recently plans have surfaced to transform the train sheds attached to the back of Main Street Station into a multi-use tourism hub of sorts. I'm excited to see what comes out of that. The whole surrounding neighborhood is steeped with history (both good and bad) and has experienced a revitalization in the last decade.
