Dramatic Rescue

Decided to brave the wind and rain and see what was happening on the River Isla this afternoon and got rather more than I bargained for:-)

An elderly man had chosen to ignore all the warning road closure signs and attempted to drive from Blairgowrie to Coupar Angus across the flooded roads.  Bad decision!  He got so far and then was hit by a strong current which forced his car against the hedge on the other side of the road and that was that.  He wasn't going anywhere!

I arrived just before the rescue services, so watched the whole drama unfold.  Three fire engines (not needed), an ambulance, a vehicle towing a large rescue boat (not needed, as a smaller dinghy was used instead), a Rescue & Recovery Unit vehicle and a car carrying a co-ordination officer.
How much did that lot cost, I wonder?

The extras show the sequence of events, from the state of the river and fields, to the car stuck with the driver inside, the arrival of the rescue vehicles and the recovery of the driver in the dinghy.  The water was still rising and the final shot shows how much more of the car was underwater by the time it was all over.  He was very lucky (and very stupid!)

My camera and I got soaked and very cold while watching, but I didn't want to miss a thing:-)
