Caen: town centre and castle

There was a suggestion that the two regional capitals of Caen (West Normandy) and Rouen (East Normandy) should be scrapped in favour of Le Havre.  A much more sensible decision was reached: the administration is to be shared between Caen and Rouen.

The magnificent castle which dominates the town centre was built by William the Bastard (a statement of fact, and not derisory) just a few years before he invaded England.  It was only several centuries later that he became known as William the Conqueror.

Foul weather: you can discern the imprint of a raindrop in the centre of the photo.
