The Gift

The Gift is a poem by Mary Oliver. I've printed it over one of my photos.

The gift is also this lovely poetry box, a Christmas present made by my daughter-in-law. If you look closely at the left side, you can see that she has covered the sides and back of the box with upcycled flattened beverage cans; the front and the roof are hand-tooled metal scraps. It's a clever wonderful thing, and it's mounted on one of the fence poles out front. I had another stand out there for awhile, but it was destroyed by someone who just knocked the whole thing into the bushes. We're all hoping this one has a better fate.

Bonus gift: you can see our cat, Rhubarb, in the front window.
