Sunday 8 July 2012: Mother Ruin
Gin, a great British drink. It was discovered by the troops fighting in the Eight years war against the Spanish in Amsterdam. Here it was being made by the House Of Bols.
It was quickly brought back to England where during the 1700 it was mass produced as it was a way of using grain that couldn't be used for making beer.
As it was the drink of the poor it quickly had the reputation of ruining mothers, or mother ruin.
today there are more and more boutique gin makers coming forward with a good few in Scotland. Carun, Blackwood and The Botanist being but a few.
This will be my entry into this weeks blip challenge for the word ruin.
