Sunday 8 July 2012: hello mummy?!!??
Pottering around the back garden this afternoon, I was joined by this rather forlorn looking bird. It hopped around this garden chair for a few minutes before I got my camera to take a picture of it. He showed no fear and at one point seemed to open its mouth expectantly: I assumed it was injured and unable to escape.
A few minutes later, a loud robin came into view carrying a mouthful of green caterpillar. It flew down to where this chick sat and fed it, stuffing this feast of green meat into the chicks mouth.
Frankly, the chick looked too obese to fly in fact and I wonder whether the plague of overweightness afflicting North American humans has now extended to the robin population.
