A concrete love affair

Motorola Timeport

A phone I had in operation from 2000 to 2004. Bought second hand, spanning the rise and fall of several other Nokia's it was one time my main and indeed back-up phone. Finally giving way in January 2004.

Unearthing it has in turn unlocked so many memories. Most prominently if you wanted to go to American at the time and use your own mobile, this was the only phone that could do that. GSM Tri-band was avante-garde. ( A modern iPhone is effectively a 12 'band' phone encompassing different types of cellular connection in addition to frequency)

So this phone spent many months in the USA, not least on my travels back in 2002 with Stewart from NY to Hawaii. And i remembered the very Saturday it stopped working, it was the first Saturday in 2004. Stoo came round with a collection of DVD's, CD's and letters sent from a group of students in Duluth Minnesota. We had met their lecturer in late 2003, and she got her class of 18/19 year olds (can't remember what they were studying) to send us a package all about their lives. We watched everything they sent in one huge viewing. That was the day this phone gave way....
