What Have The Scots Every Done For Us #3

Battle of the Boyne, 1690

A Scottish Catholic King, Scottish Protestant troops and another 300 years of bitterness and violence for the Irish...

This is the bend in the Boyne at the entrance to Townley Hall, where Meinhard Schomberg and 10,000 men crossed to try and outflank James' forces - only to be stopped by swampy ground at Roughgrange.

For those going to be smart and ask why I didn't wait until tomorrow, the battle took place on July 1st in the Julian calendar; equivalent to July 11th in the Gregorian. However, the Orange Order initially celebrated the Battle of Aughrim (July 12th 1691 Julian) which marked the effective end of the war, and so the date of the 12th was already established as a day of sectarian bigotry jubilation commemoration before the calendar was reformed.
