Happy Family

It's been really lovely to have a visit this weekend from my dear friends SuMay and Susha and their delightful daughter, Cassia. They're a wonderful family and it won't be long before they'll welcome another member... Cassia is looking forward to having a baby brother in a couple of months!

We managed to pack an awful lot of activities in today and I enjoyed starting the day over porridge with Cassia followed by lots of chat and story reading before heading into town for visits to the World Museum, Central Library and Walker Art Gallery, where cake was enjoyed by all.

But the biggest excitement of the day was reserved for this evening when we went to see the 'Luminous Landscapes: Spring Festival of Light' spectacular at the Garden Festival site - along with 9,000 other people this weekend. We followed a lantern-lit woodland trail and encountered all manner of breathtaking sights, many of them involving puppetry and beautiful illuminated model animals. I particularly loved the huge owl flying through the woods and swooping down to greet passing children, the gorgeous flamingos on the lakeside and the frogs and lotus flowers on the water. Not forgetting the dancing crows! We also saw a mystical tai chi display at the Chinese pagoda and heard a brass band of strange woodland creatures play some stirring tunes and a choir singing ancient songs of springtime. The whole experience was magical.

(I refer you to fellow MerseyBlipper SJB's pictures from last night to give you an idea of how fabulous it was... www.blipfoto.com/entry/2147480109257327721 )

Afterwards we were all thoroughly exhausted but returned home for a delicious Thai meal and more chat before bedtime. Although Cassia bowed out of the meal and chat and went straight to bed after bidding us a polite "Goodnight!"

It makes me happy to see my friends so happy... www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQJ5UsBBuJY
