Wednesday 11 July 2012: Family Portrait At Newport Wetlands

A rare day of almost unbroken sunshine!

I decided to head down to Newport Wetlands with Nigel (Barman Blips). We were hoping to get a Little Owl or Bearded Tit photo, as both have been showing well down there of late. Alas we came up empty on both counts. The Little Owl was hiding and it was too breezy for the Bearded Tits to flying around the top of the reeds. They were staying well concealed.

At least this family of mute swans came out to put a smile on our faces. There was also a couple of Tufted Ducks that stayed really close to the "bouncy bridge" all the time we were stood there. I have discovered "diving duck diving" photos are just as hard as birds in flight shots. I have about 50 photos of nothing more than ripples!

Other than that, it was a day of butterflies and dragonflies, and plenty of welcome sunshine and fresh air!
