Waiting

I'm waiting for a lift to work.

I could have run.

I will run home.

I'm leaning against a car bonnet.

I can hear showers running, birds singing, the hum of the traffic on Gloucester Road, the promise of a new day.

I've just put some new laces in my shoes.

There are signs of a blue sky.

I've been through the mental checklist of my day.

Waiting is not so bad after all.
