Founding Montreal

Usually stained glass windows in churches depict religious events, but the windows on the main level of Notre Dame Basillica depict important events in the history of Montreal. These panels show missionary Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve planting a cross atop Mount Royal. Maisonneuve, considered the founder of Montreal, established Ville Marie on May 17, 1642.
