Friday 13 July 2012: Green shoots of recovery - an allegory
They said the hedge wouldn't survive without the top. Cutting back to the lowest level and making it start from back there would kill off the whole thing. Certainly we'd lose TV coverage and related sponsorship deals. Despite the threats of doom we stuck to our guns and cut it back. And now, a few weeks later, there are signs of fresh growth all along the branches. Growth not seen for years has come back. The competition for light has been invigorated by removing the top shoots that were taking most of the light. Things look in good shape for the future!
