Sunday 15 July 2012: Silverknowes Bridge
"Alex. Findlay & Co
Engineers & Bridge Builders
Parkneuk Iron Works
Motherwell 1892"
"Refurbished by City of Edinburgh Council, 1999"
Rivets fresh from the heat of the furnace inserted in by real men with big hammers to build infrastructure for an ambitious nation. Carrying Silverknowes Road over the railway, this bridge was a vital link.
Silverknowes Road is no longer a through route for traffic, providing only local access to a small number of houses.
The railway line has long since fallen out of use, but still provides a path for walkers and cyclists.
The rivets still hold good, indifferent to 120 years of change.
