Monday 16 July 2012: hermit crabs

A and E are back at work so a tough day for us holidayers with a beach walk and then a swim. Ho hum!!, someone's gotta do it.

Highlight was the discovery of real, live hermit crabs on the beach skittering around as opposed to the ponderous dudes of the pet shop. These ones have long, conical shells the tips of which leave criss-crossing tracks in the sand. We lined up a few for a race and there was a bolter that left the remainder still dithering around at the start.

Very inquisitive, this character was only discovered in a handful of shells, one of which start tickling my palm. Not shy and retiring at all!
