Seattle/Pets

I swear - I had other plans but - this guy too much at our local little market. And then on the bus I found the other (extra) with this ___________? in his arms!
 
Please play detective, I thought it was a large bird being held like a baby beak up in the air but now I see those are ears and he/it is looking at us.  God only knows.
