Port Underwood, Marlborough Sounds

We arrived in Blenheim and decided to go off the beaten track and do a bit of four wheel driving this afternoon. Farmerboy had a plan. We would travel to Rarangi, and go along the Port Underwood Road which eventually comes out at Waikawa Bay at Picton.

At first I thought how boring, but decided to go along with Farmerboy's plan as he wanted to do it. The road started off on tarseal, then we went onto a windy, shingled and corrugated road. We drove through 8 bays, each one having the odd farm, and a few baches (or holiday homes as we call the flasher ones here in NZ). Most of these Bays we had never heard off, so it was really interesting coming across them.

As we got closer to Picton, the road went back onto tarseal. We stopped in Picton and sat outside a cafe having lunch, watching the world pass us by.

After heading back to Blenheim, we met up with Farmerboy's step sister and family who were passing through Blenheim on their way to their holiday.

This photo was taken on one of our stops on Port Underwood Road. The view, of the Tasman Sea, was magnificent! A well worth while trip to view some of New Zealand's beautiful scenery and countryside.
