Sgwarnog: In the Field

Ringlet

The sunshine drew the butterflies out today. I've been trying to get a decent shot of a Ringlet for a couple of weeks, but they seem a bit skittish. This one came over from the moor into the garden, and settled for a short while. It's not as sharp as I'd have liked so I'll see if I can get a better one during the next few weeks.

It's also been a day for unusual varieties: a double-pupilled Meadow Brown (they normally only have one black dot in their white 'eye'), and Large Skipper with just a single antenna.

Don't forget that the Big Butterfly Count is on in the UK at the moment - you have until August 5 to submit your observations.
