It Was Shining Gold in the Afternoon Sun

Still fighting this cold/allergy combo. A day of hot eyeballs, achiness and not much energy. But because Mr S dug some deep holes to begin our tomato project, I did manage to get out there and plant three New Girl seedlings that we bought at the Farm and Garden plant sale yesterday. We put a fish head, rabbit manure, bone meal, fertilizer and two aspirin in each hole; it's a terrific formual worked out by a local farm.

For years our go-to tomato was Early Girl--perfect for the coastal fog and mild summers. Now that the variety has been taken over by Monsanto, a lot of folks are looking for a replacement, so we are trying a new kind with crossed fingers. By the time we're done, we'll have a couple dozen plants out there. But for now, I'm taking my hot eyeballs to bed and hoping this thing runs its course soon.
