Diary of an Edinburgher

Breakfast cocktails

Election Day. Let"s get it over with - I am so tired of the leaders and their inane 'photo opportunities' every evening on the news. What has riding a bull or driving a go-kart or - my favourite - visiting nurseries and doing something messy with toddlers, got to do with anything?? Except avoiding hard questions from actual voters.

We were invited for brunch by Rufus and his mum at a dog friendly establishment across the Meadows this morning. The dogs got a good walk - Archie running hither and thither, Rufus (who was very smart in his yellow harness) trotting along just behind us.

We had to pass Lutzi's bit, and she went bonkers at Rufus, who just looks straight ahead, trots on, and ignores her. Archie didn't know what to make of this behaviour - he's never seen her like this before, and kept jumping up at the wall and (I think) blocking her view of Rufus.

A big collie also snapped at Rufus, who had innocently trotted across to say hello to him. I'm sure it was a concerned nuzzle Archie gave Rufus when he scuttled back to us.

We had a delicious breakfast/brunch (see extra) with a large Bloody Mary, as you do. (That's water in the gin bottle, btw). The music (not muzak) was quiet jazz. Perfect. A dish of water for the dogs, which Archie managed to stand on/in, spill everywhere and give himself a fright.

Another walk back through the Meadows. No need to go to the gym today! In fact, when I got home I was more puffed and flushed and hot'n'bothered than I ever am at the gym.

We ran the gauntlet of Lutzi again. Archie went first and she quietly acknowledged him, but her eyes were on Rufus, then she went crazy at him again!

No kids at JR's school today, but she took advantage of this to go in and get things organised before her fast approaching retiral.

Peaceful at home today - no more drilling into walls, just things getting quietly plastered. And that's nothing to do with having a Bloody Mary before midday...
