Earning the Captain's Embrace

I had the privilege today of watching a young man score a double century for the club's second team in the first round of the cup. For a short while it was touch and go whether Struan would get enough bowling to reach what is a sensational milestone in a 45 over game, but he got there with a colossal straight six in the penultimate over. Roam got a game and despite not having bowled a ball, even in practice, since the end of last season, did remarkably well, picking up two wickets and keeping it very tight. Chasing 333, the game was all over by the time he finished his first spell. Struan and Roam used to play for two different clubs as juniors. Both fiercely competitive, it used to get quite feisty when Roam was bowling and Struan was batting. It's much better now seeing them on the same side! The boys have turned into men in a big way!
