A Collector of Oddities

Chili

A small chili grows bravely on our kitchen windowsill.

This is quite a mild chili. Up until quite recently, the hottest in the world was the ghost chili at over 1,000,000 Scoville units which is the amount at which it needs to be diluted so that the heat can no longer be detected. A woman in India ate 51 in 2 minutes in 2009, setting a new world record. Apparently the Indian military uses it to make weapons to immobilise terrorists.

Unsurprisingly, nutters keep growing ever hotter chilis and the current holder is the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion at over 2, 000, 000 Scoville units. Wow.
