Leaving Milan, travelling to Venice via Lake Garda

Go to the start of my trip here.

6th July 2012 EURO6

Today we travel to Venice, via Lake Garda.

We go up at 8:30 am as Dan was going to Uni, and he could take us to the metro. Used our 24hr tickets from yesterday and got on the metro to Central Station (centrale station). HOT. The train station is gorgeous and very impressive and organised. Lots of shops.

We arrived 9:45ish and our train was 11:25 so we had a little wait. Wasn't too bad and got texts from M :) Got on the train successfully around 11, nice seats and very comfortable. 1 pm we arrived in Lake Garda. On leaving the station we spotted a British couple backpacking and asked for directions to the lake. This was great luck, 5 minute gorgeous walk.

This is certainly one of the most beautiful places that I have been, and describing it by words would be impossible, nor do photos do it justice. I am sitting now by the lake writing this. Speed boats are in view and there are people in the water. There is a lovely cooling breeze. I keep thinking "Jonathan would like this," (mainly trams and trains) or "Wouldn't this be lovely with the family?". Hopefully I can take everyone here one day, perhaps this potential for "holiday home"! Absolutely gorgeous, thank goodness we stopped here.

At first everything was a bit scary and odd but it is becoming more normal and exciting. Anything that goes wrong, we learn from and shouldn't happen again. And we get through! It is exciting knowing you will be somewhere new very soon and I need to enjoy every moment as it will be gone soon and time will pass fast.

After this we walked up to a café and got an ice cream (?2.50, caramel and white choc) and found a café with the Federa match on. We walked up to a little shop where the lady thought I had stole bananas (I think?) but as I wanted to buy them anyway I just paid for them and went, haha. Then we wandered back down and asked the previous café to put Murray game on, they did. Watched until 6 pm and then walked up to the station. Had great chat at the station and watched the police and train instructors cross the tracks by foot, crazy. They are VERY strict about people crossing the yellow line at the edge of the station, but I understand why as when the fast trains go by you really feel it. Train was again lovely and comfortable. Received text updates from M and D about Murray and he won! Very happy. Must find somewhere to watch that.

Thought of Jon as future train instructor, haha.

As we got off the train we started talking to "Adam" who was from US and ironically about to start Pre-Med next year. EVERYONE so far we have met have been medics, or future medics... and they say medics stick together. He had been travelling ALONE for 11 months, something I could never do. Venice was buzzing at night. Luckily we found our hostel. Got private rooms which is brill. No aircon but we will cope. Great bed time chat with Fiona. KEEN for tomorrow :)
