Smailholm Tower

A day to relax. Got to the shops early early early to avoid the rush and Mel got some clothes she's been after. A quick brekkie in VinCaffe and then home to let the chooks out for a wee while, before exorcising that cabin fever ourselves with a drive down into the borders, and a tale of two towers...

It wasn't intentional, but after passing Greenknowe Tower just outside Duns, and deciding to turn round and have a look (you can go right to the top) we then saw a sign for Smailholm Tower, and neither of us ever having visited we went for a gander. And above is what we saw. £3.70 each to get in seemed a bit steep so we basically had a walk round enjoying the view and seeing the tower lit by the sun, with the moon also in attendance (had a hard time choosing between these shots).

Home via Earthy Foods for some decent grub tonight and for breakfast tomorrow, and that's pretty much the tale of the day. Which was nice after getting a decent night's sleep for the first time in ages.

Still angry with my boss for the stunt he pulled on Friday, but that's by the by, and the rant has subsided. Today there was sun, clear air, blue skies (or sky, why do people say 'skies' when there's only one?) and just 'relaxing'. I could have been riding at Glentress today with my brother, and it would have been great fun, but I think I needed this day to get level again. Especially since tomorrow I'll be busy all day again working in the garden...

What was interesting today was the feeling of frustration building as we got to the city to be surrounded by people again. Folk in a rush, space being fought for. Okay so there were people in a rush as we toured about the Borders, but there's space there to accommodate it, no fighting required. Good food (courtesy of Earthy), good company (courtesy of Mel) and a relaxed attitude to life. I would say i don't need much more, but then I'd be missing out good beer, good wine, good bikes, good movies, good good good good good.

Excuse me, there's a lot of good I need to be getting on with. Must rush.
