Tasty Treats

Just a few years ago we always looked forward to the first crop of Jersey Royals.  We bought them again this year when they first came in, but I have to say that to my taste, the Cornish variety are far superior.
That’s been the pattern for the past two or three years in which it appears that the flavour of the Jerseys seem to have lost their appeal.  For a couple of years we found that potatoes from Suffolk surpassed the Jerseys, but more recently we have settled for those from Cornwall.
We don’t eat that many in the normal course of events, but this time of year, when the new potatoes are about, we have to admit to indulging ourselves. And our local greengrocer always knows precisely what I am looking for this time of year.
The new Cornish potatoes are easier to clean and scrape ready for cooking, and at our local shop are cheaper too.

But above all,  the flavour to my mind is so much better.
