Saturday 28 July 2012: Spanish pottery
These are two of the pieces that sit on the sideboard in my lounge. Both from Spain, but very different; both much loved for sentimental reasons.
The little jug is very typical of the coarse hand-painted ceramics to be found in souvenir shops and on market stalls in Spain and was a present in 1974 from a pupil at the Barcelona school where I worked.
The fine stripy vase was bought by me from an expensive gallery in Sitges, along with the cylindrical stripy vase on the upper right-hand-side of the sideboard, and given to my mother when I got back from my travels. It has the name Serra painted on its bottom. I would love to find out more about that potter, but searches on google have drawn a blank.
