Hebrides Day Eight, last day on Lewis

We planned to stay local today and explore a few of the local craft studios. We started at the Hebridean soap company. Really interesting hearing how the soap is made and how the company started and the success it is having. A change for the lady running it who worked for IBM and now lives in a large house next to the studio in the middle o a very tiny village of just a few houses.
Next onto the Blue Pig Studio near Carloway. Really lovely, varied crafts. Again another change of direction for Jane the owner who used to be a Scientific artist. Wonderful workshop shown here, very inspirational.
Then to 40 North to pick up our lunch of Fish and chips for Mike and Chicken with mozzarella and sundried tomatoes for me. We drove down to an area near the sea and watched the tide go out  while we enjoye our meal.
We got out of the car to go for a walk and immediately heard Corncrakes. There must have been a few talking to each other but we could nt see them even though we tried really hard. However there were lots of birds in the nearby graveyard. TwIte, Wheatears, sky larks and pied wagtails. Rabbits jumped around the really old gravestones that were lined up in rows. Another crumbled chapel covered in masses of lichen.
We stopped at the Rarebird gallery which sells items made from Harris tweed some wonderful things. I bought some scrapes of fabric for some artwork and the craftsman, another Englishman, asked what I was going to make and when I said I wanted to create a picture of our holiday he said I would need some sky and a loch so he gave me a few larger pieces of blue fabric, how kind was that :)
We finished the day sitting in the sun watching surfers at Dalmore. They did nt ride too many waves but one surfed really well and we could hear the cheers of encouragement  from the other surfers .
Already packed ready to move on tomorrow.
Wonder what the result from the Referendum will be ?
I nearly forgot we also wnet to the Broch at Carloway. An amazing place to be when the wind was howling and the rain starting to come down but really sheltered inside and fascinating to see the old staircases still there although you had to bend over really low to get inside. I wonder if people were extremely tiny back then or if they were just used to crawling into places :)
