Chalkhill Blue

It was the last day of a fabulous weekend staying with family in Swanage, and we rounded it off with a visit to Badbury Rings in the morning followed by Kingston Lacy house and gardens.

Badbury Rings is an Iron Age hill fort dating from around 800 BC and is now part of the Kingston Lacy estate managed by the National Trust. At this time of year the rings are covered in wild flowers which attract many butterflies, and as the underlying rock is chalk, one of the species that can be found here is the Chalkhill Blue.

I took plenty of shots of them, and I like this one best because it shows some of both sides of the wings.
