Firhill Basin

As I got into work early this morning and the sun was shining, I decided to walk up to the Forth and Clyde Canal, close to Murano Street.

This is a view looking towards the Firhill Basin, an area of regeneration that has transformed Glasgow's canal into a fantastic waterside environment.

First opened in 1790, the Forth & Clyde canal was vital to the growth of Glasgow and the industrial boom of this time. Maryhill was known as the Venice of the North for its canals and also for being the centre of the glass industry.
