Tuesday 31 July 2012: Hidden in Plain Sight
At about two inches long, this is a pretty big grasshopper. I didn't see it on the sidewalk til I stepped too close and then it exploded up and settled a few inches away in the sun. It didn't seem to mind my crawling in close and clicking a bunch of pictures; I even ventured to touch its wing, which got no reaction at all. Every time I dumped a bucket of garden trimmings in the recycle can I had to step around it; just as I'd gotten a good rhythm going, it disappeared.
