WildWednesday: Kite Flying

Mississippi Kite flying over the DogPark this morning. In the family of Hawks and Eagles, this raptor breeds from Arizona and the southern Great Plains east to the Carolinas and south to the Gulf Coast. They have reportedly been expanding their range lately to include southern New England in the spring. They winter in the tropics. Basically insectivores, they eat mostly grasshoppers and dragonflies but will dine on small snakes and frogs when the opportunity arises.
