Thursday 2 August 2012: Caption Competition
Met up with family today, including my lovely little grand niece, at the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover, Hampshire. This is a conservation charity set in 22 acres of woodland and wildflower meadow, with 150 birds on display. Here is the only great bustard aviary in the country, a joy to see these heaviest of birds which have recently been re-introduced back into the wild with an extended breeding and rehabilitation programme.
Over the years we've been to many flying demonstrations up and down the country, but today's was by far the most outstanding. No tricks, no gimmicks, just let the birds out and keepers and audience sit back and watch. The most fabulous [and for me moving] sight was around a dozen black kites filling the skies, to the accompaniment of classical music, balletic in grace and beauty. The keepers are passionate and dedicated and full of fun. A fantastic day.
Here is Mike, Head Falconer, up close and personal with an American Eagle he had just flown. I'm sure there are a few good repeatable captions for this photo, but all I can think of are unprintable. Can you do any better?
[just to prove this isn't rigged, you can see the whole pic on blipfolio]
