Was It Really So Long Ago

W is for ... What a Golden Performance

It is just the best thing. Now that the Olympics are well under way, the headlines in the UK news have turned. Before that Friday night show, story-hungry Journos obsessed about a security contractor short of people, sponsors and a tax loophole and whether Joe Public would get into the Olympic Park wearing his favourite Pepsi t-shirt.

My opinions will forever be my own, and so I give thanks to the passing of that fabulous Friday evening and the endurance of a fading Paul McCartney. As if by magic, talk of problems and wingeing about sponsors have passed from the headlines. I was concerned to see the front cover of Friday's Telegraph 'going all Sun' with the appalling headline 'His Royal Hoyness' in celebration of Sir Chris Hoy's acheievements, but on the whole the news has been positive (if you can overlook the farsical oriental badminton match earlier this week).

Thanks then to the likes of the wonderful Jessica Ennis and 11 other individuals and teams, @teamGB are firmly in the medal standings at third. As I write, I've just heard of Greg Rutherford's triumph in the long jump AND go go Mo Farah - yes victory in the 10 000m too! The first time in history, teamGB has secured three gold medals in an athletics event. I'm overwhelmed, exstatic and rightly proud of them all. This is what the Olympics should be about. These are the moments we should be shouting about and remember.

I managed to catch this shot of the heptathletes, embodying the Olypmic values of Friendship, respect and excellence. We have embraced the Olympic fever, this is what we'll take from the games, and the shortcomings (which have been thankfully few) will be consigned to history.

By the way, the sight of Nadine Broersen (right of the picture) standing on tip-toes made me chuckle.

Can't wait until Wednesday!!!
