Naked Camel

Traveling to Athens with S and my sister, but I made them stop off in the NHM to look at the skin off exhibition, which was very impressive. Carcasses (not killed for the exhibition) are dipped in acetone to remove body fat and water, then immersed in silicone and a vacuum causes the silicone to infiltrate the body's tissues, preserving it. There were goats, rabbits, and amazingly an elephant, giraffe and gorilla with their skin removed. Particularly impressive were the size of the arteries in the elephant. There was also a shark with only it's vasculature preserved, a beautiful red net that traced out its form.

Here's a camel.
