Eagle lecturn

During my trips photographing churches I have often been drawn to the .beautiful Eagle shaped lecturns on which the Bible is placed. Sometimes these are made of carved wood, and others of brass and even silver plate, but always standing on either a orb or a rock, clinging on with massive talons!
Looking online at the history behind this the Eagle is the symbol of John the evangelist who has many links in his gospel to the 'word being made flesh' in Jesus, and made real in preaching. The Eagle also soars upwards, is strong and direct in flight  and is inspiring in it's magesty - hopefully the preached word will be too.
I found this beautiful lecturn at Holy Trinity church in Westcott in Surrey, a very interesting little church about a mile or so from my birthtown of Dorking.
