Mackintosh's Masterpiece

The light this evening was stunning, so I could not resist photographing the towering west façade of the Mackintosh Building at the Glasgow School of Art. This is Mackintosh's masterpiece and this façade with its dramatic design and dominating windows heralded the birth of a new style in 20th century European architecture.

Thomas Howarth described it as: 'A building designed primarily to fulfil its purpose well, with, of course, some artist's license.....
It was then and remains Mackintosh's most representative work, and it is undoubtedly his most important contribution to the New Movement'.
