Having over-indulged in laziness, food, wine, sunshine and reading, I'm taking a moment to reflect on the latest book. It's about a disgraced priest, a brothel administrator, a man hired to break arms and legs, various dodgy dealers and an officious church warden. Yes, it's a comedy! There's the birth and death of a church, the commercialisation of kindness and throughout there's a light touch with life and death. Strangely, I've encountered each of these professions in the last 35 years of work up and down the country, purely in a professional capacity, and some, probably all, are still friends. I guess it's a modern-day parable inviting the reader to enjoy more, give more, and take themselves and God a little less seriously, perhaps a little more playfully; Hitman Anders and the meaning of it all.

I'm also reading Play: How it shapes the brain, opens the imagination and invigorates the soul. A more academic approach with similar themes.

And ahead, a couple more days of nothing much. And the blip? The capital of this delightful island.
