Quilled

A domestic day. The morning was spent digging up a patch of montbretia that had outgrown its space, and replacing it with a more varied mix of plants, including a beautiful deep-purple Michaelmas daisy. Although the garden is now looking better than it did in August, thanks to the rain and a lot of tidying away of old growth, more autumn colour is always a bonus. The cosmos are just coming into their own - I particularly like this pale pink version with quilled petals, grown from a free packet of 'Seashells Mixed'.

The promised rain arrived at lunchtime, just right to water in my new plantings. The afternoon was spent turning some of the small mountain of apples we have into delicious chutney! Pete returned from his stint teaching at Leeds Uni in the evening - all seemed to have gone well and he's promised me that this bunch of students are pretty good (I get to teach them next May)!
