It's a Beautiful Life

Look at me Mum...

...I can stand on one leg!

Pigeon Jnr fledged yesterday. I heard a thud on the conservatory roof, followed by frantic scratchings and then a steady tap. On further investigation P.Jnr had made it from the lime tree nest to the conservatory guttering and was having a lesson in what glass is by tapping it with his beak. By the evening, he was safely ensconced in the rowan tree and was sitting there with a wing practically over his head, sheltering from the downpour!

This morning, and somewhat drier, our young pupil has been sitting in the rowan tree near the bird feeder, learning about how other birds feed. Other than that, a lot of snoozing, preening, stretching of wings and a feed from parent (during which his head practically disappeared down her throat!), he has been kept amused by the antics of the 'bird with the big plumage' who lives in the large nest with the glass roof, and her strange antics creeping around the garden with a large black eye that goes 'snap, snap, snap'.

As I write, another loud thud and wild scratchings are heard on the conservatory roof. P.Jnr II has just fledged, and has now made it to the rowan tree via the conservatory roof where Mum and sibling are on hand.
