Low Def Video

This was the state of the art in home video back in the 1950's. A Model 2 Kodak Brownie movie camera equipped with a f2.7 lens and an eco power source (clockwork...hence the big key on the side). When new it cost $29.95 and, according to this contemporary TV advert, 'easy payment terms' were available for purchase.

This one seems to be in perfect working order as far as I can tell but I'm not sure I'll ever find any 8 mm film stock to try it out. These were manufactured between March 1956 and April 1958. It was very kindly donated to my camera collection by a colleagues family at work (along with a Kodak Colorsnap 35 camera which will most likely feature in a future Blip)....much appreciated...a fascinating piece of gear and social history combined.

PS: If you want a laugh check out the camera lights that were available for it in the TV advert....
